Meet Kristina

Dr. Kristina Scharp is a Professor at Rutgers University and a Director of the Family Communication and Relationships Lab. She is also a Fellow of the International Association for Relationships Research.

She is the (co)author of over 100 scholarly journal articles and book chapters as well as the co-editor of three books:

  • Handbook of Communication and Resilience

  • Reconciliation: The Final Step in Achieving Nonviolent Social Change

  • Engaging Theories in Interpersonal Communication: Multiple Perspectives

She also has co-authored numerous textbooks such as Communication in Family Contexts, How to Conduct Communication Research, Exploring Communication Theory: Making Sense of Us, and Communication and Human Behavior.

 

Dedicated to translating her research to the public, Dr. Scharp has written for outlets like Psychology Today and developed workshops and educational trainings. Furthermore, she has delivered international keynote presentations at The Family Estrangement Conference and European Communication Research and Education Association as well as given talks in the United States at the University of Texas-Austin, University of Connecticut, Miami University, University of Arizona, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee among other academic institutions.

 

A frequent guest on NPR and in the New York Times, she has been featured in numerous media outlets such as The Washington Post, The New Yorker, Newsweek, Women’s Health, The Good Men Project, The Atlantic, Huffington Post, Good Housekeeping, and Forbes. She is also a recurring guest on national radio shows and podcasts.

 

Kristina is the parent of two teen-aged children and lives with her husband in the New York City area. She loves to explore new travel destinations and bring back local recipes to cook for her family.
